Hey…remember the international outrage when Egyptians gassed and killed 4 Palestinian tunnel smugglers in April:
Egyptian forces pumped gas into a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle goods into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing four Palestinians, Hamas officials said.
Egypt has been under pressure to seal off the hundreds of tunnels that are a key economic lifeline for the blockaded Palestinian territory but which are also used to bring in weapons for the Islamic militant group.
Oh, you didn’t hear about that one? I was sure that it had led to a UN resolution condemning Egypt and massive protests from the international left.
Well I’m sure then that you must have heard about the Palestinian fisherman who was killed by the Egyptian navy on May 12th.
A Gaza fisherman claims that an Egyptian corvette rammed his fishing boat, near Egypt, knocking his father into the water. Then, the son says, the corvette kept ramming his father until dead, rather than rescuing him.
You didn’t hear about that either? Must have been an oversight.
I can’t speak for why other countries may “not have cared” but as an American, I can tell you that the big difference between the Egyptian incident and yesterday’s Israeli massacre is that our government supplies an incredible amount of money, arms and moral/political support to Israel. We’re constantly told that we have a “special relationship” with Israel. The rest of the world rightfully views the USA as as Israel’s good doggy that knows when to sit, when to fetch, and when to block a UN resolution.
Since the American taxpayers are so tight with Israel, shouldn’t we be allowed to be especially critical when our “friend” screws up?
You’re right Reverend there is a HUGE difference between the two. You called one an “incident” and you called the other a “massacre”.
Ok….they’re both incidents.
I would prefer they were both incidents that were committed by countries that our government had no loyalty to.
Jefferson put it best. “Commerce with all nations…entangling alliances with none.”
Frankly I don’t care what Israel does. I care what our country does, and we shouldn’t be propping up any nation, be it Egypt or Israel, that commits these kinds of actions.
The answer to your original question is: it doesn’t fit their agenda, which is to villianize Israel. Another answer to the Reverend may be found here (among other places):
